Scout Mk2 baseplate compass
Ships within 3 to 5 business days.
This is a compass you place on a map, not one you hold at arm's length. The transparent baseplate allows you to see the map underneath, and the body features everything needed to work directly on the map: rulers in centimeters and inches, a rotating dial graduated in degrees, and four mapping scales: 1:25000, 1:24000, 1:62500, and 1:50000. The 1:25000 scale is the one used for IGN Série Bleue maps, the standard for French hiking. The housing is liquid-filled to stabilize the needle, and a lanyard prevents it from being lost during a break. When choosing a baseplate compass, look for this detail: the engraved scales must correspond to the maps you actually use.
