EDC: The 15 Essentials to Carry With You Every Day
Knife, flashlight, multi-tool, wallet, first-aid kit: the items that are truly useful, and those you're glad to have when things go wrong.
EDC, for Every Day Carry, refers to what we carry on ourselves every day: in our pockets, on our key ring, or in a small bag. The idea is not to gear up for the apocalypse, but to have something at hand to cut, illuminate, repair, and get by when the unexpected happens.
We have classified these 15 essentials into four families: cutting, illuminating, carrying, and organizing, to prepare for the unexpected. It is not a question of taking everything. Start with a knife and a flashlight, then complete according to your days.

Frequently asked questions
- What does EDC mean?
- EDC stands for Every Day Carry, literally "what you carry every day". It's the set of useful items you keep on hand: knife, flashlight, wallet, tool, watch.
- Can you carry a knife in France?
- A knife is a category D weapon: carrying and transporting it is prohibited without a legitimate reason. A specific activity (hiking, fishing, bivouacking, work) can constitute this reason, but it is up to the police, and then the judge, to assess its validity. In the city and without a particular reason, it's better to leave it at home.
- What is the most practical EDC flashlight?
- For a pocket, a flat flashlight like the Nitecore EDC07. For a keychain, a keychain flashlight like the TINI 3: 20 grams, and it's always there.
