Vector Optics Forester 8x42 Binoculars
Eight times is the magnification that doesn't shake. The 8x42 is the format chosen by birdwatchers, and their criterion is not power: it is image stability.
Why 8x instead of 10x
Two times less magnification, and hand shake disappears from the image. You can follow a bird in flight, scan a hillside, or observe for half an hour straight without your eyes getting tired. At 10x, you have to lean on something.
The exit pupil
42 divided by 8 gives 5.25 mm. This is more than the 4.2 mm of a 10x42 with the same lens diameter: for the same objective, less magnification means more light to the eye. These binoculars can therefore be used later into the evening than their 10x equivalent.
The compact format
42 mm objectives instead of 50: a narrower, lighter body that can be carried around the neck all day and tucked into a jacket pocket. It is a format for hiking rather than for sitting in a hide.
The construction
Ergonomic design for a comfortable grip, and a construction designed for regular use in the field.
