Vector Optics
Vector Optics Forester 10x50 Binoculars
The magnification of a 10x42 with the brightness of a 50 mm. This is the compromise offered by this format, and it comes at the cost of bulk.
What the designation means
10x magnification, 50 mm objective lens, resulting in a 5 mm exit pupil.
Five millimeters is the threshold from which an optic remains truly usable at twilight. Compared to a 10x42 and its 4.2 mm, the difference is not noticeable at noon: it is visible an hour after sunset.
What it costs
50 mm objective lenses make for a wider and heavier body than a 42. On a hike where every gram counts, this is a real issue; at a hide or observation post, it is of no consequence.
Ten times, handheld
At 10x, you are at the limit of what can be observed without support: the image shakes slightly. Resting your elbows or leaning against something is usually enough to stabilize it.
Construction
Classic format, ergonomic design thought out for comfortable handling even during prolonged use.
If stability and light matter more than detail, the 7x50 Forester in the catalog takes this reasoning even further.
