The backpack-sized floating lantern. Three AA batteries instead of three D batteries: much less bulk, for a lantern that does the same job on a smaller scale.

The 0.7 lumen red mode
Less than a lumen seems ridiculous. That's exactly the point: this intensity is enough to find your way in a tent or find something in a bag without destroying your eyes' adaptation to darkness, which takes twenty to thirty minutes to return.
And at this power, the battery life reaches twelve days continuously.
It floats, and it stands upright
IPX7: waterproof to 1 meter, and floating. The rubberized base stabilizes it on an uneven or slippery surface - a rock, a tent floor, a wet countertop.
The charge indicator is in the button
The button changes from green to yellow then to red as it discharges. Flashing red indicates the end of the batteries.
Power supply
Three AA batteries or rechargeable equivalents - the easiest batteries to find anywhere.
The more powerful model
The Siege on D-cell batteries goes up to 540 lumens and 430 hours in SOS mode, with significantly greater bulk: 880 grams.
