Nite Ize
CamJam XT Large Aluminum Rope Tightener
Tighten a rope without tying a knot, and release it in one motion. That is all the CamJam does—and that is what makes it hard to replace once you have tried it.
How it works
A carabiner on one end, a rotating cam on the other. You feed the rope through the cam and pull: the cam bites and locks. The harder you pull on the load, the tighter it holds.
To release, you flip the cam. No knots to untie under tension, no rope to cut because the knot has jammed.
Watch the actual load
This is the point no one mentions, and it is decisive:
Without the provided rope: working load 227 kg (500 lbs).
With the provided rope: working load 114 kg (250 lbs).
The included rope is therefore the weak link: it cuts the capacity in half. If you need to secure a heavy load, use a stronger rope—the tensioner itself can handle double.
Breaking strength of the assembly: 680 kg (1500 lbs).
Two ways to mount it
Fixed point—you hook the carabiner to an anchor, then feed the rope through the cam. This is the direct setup for tensioning between two points.
Loop setup—you tie a knot at one end of the rope, clip the carabiner to it, then feed the other end through the cam. The rope then wraps around the load and closes on itself.
The second setup is the most common: it allows you to cinch a load without needing an anchor point directly opposite it.
Which ropes it accepts
From 3 to 9 mm in diameter. That is a wide range: from thin cord to 9 mm rope, the same piece works.
A 3-meter white rope is provided.
What it is not intended for
It is a tie-down tensioner, designed for strapping down equipment and cargo. Anything involving personal safety—belaying, working at heights, lifting over someone—requires certified equipment for that use, which is a different category of product.
Technical specifications
