A small axe for forest and open-field wood, handy enough to also be used in the garden. The head is sandblasted and then clear-varnished, a treatment that keeps the steel visible while protecting it from surface corrosion. The curved handle is made of hickory: this resilient wood absorbs the shock instead of reflecting it back into the wrist, which matters when you have been splitting wood for an hour. The edge protector is included. At 951 grams, it is the lighter of the two hatchets in the H series.
Highlights
- 951 grams: the lightweight version of the H series, for a pack where every ounce counts
- Curved hickory handle: the gold-standard wood for absorbing shock rather than transmitting it
- Edge protector included: the axe can be stored in a bag without improvised packaging
