Gerber
LMF II Infantry Knife
A survival knife designed by former military man Jeff Freeman for Gerber. The LMF II is the benchmark from which the Prodigy is derived, only larger.
The blade
420HC stainless steel with a high carbon content. This is a steel that prioritizes durability and ease of sharpening over extreme edge retention—the right trade-off for a tool you sharpen in the field.
Lashing holes
The knife features lashing holes: it can be attached to a pole to serve as a spear. This is a rare and explicitly intended function, not a modification.
The sheath
Two leg straps, for stable carry on the thigh rather than a sheath that flops around on the belt.
What it is used for
Cutting firewood, setting up a shelter, severing a strap: it is a versatile bivouac and rescue tool, built to last rather than to slice finely.
