Gerber
Gator Combo Axe II
An axe with a saw inside the handle. Not a gimmick: two tools you always bring together for bivouacs, combined into a single footprint.
The axe
39.6 cm overall, 6.9 cm blade, forged stainless steel head.
The handle is longer than the original Gator's, and that is the point of version II: more leverage, therefore more striking force for the same effort.
The saw
It fits inside the handle and is held magnetically - nothing to unclip, nothing to lose. Coarse teeth, made for branches and brush: 26 cm overall, 15.5 cm blade.
A saw cuts green wood much better than an axe and without splitting it. Having both saves you from having to choose.
The handle
Glass-filled nylon, covered in Gerber's Gator texture. It is this coating that keeps your hand steady when wet or covered in mud, where a smooth handle would become dangerous.
Lightweight and robust: this is a camp tool, not a splitting maul.
