ESS
ESS Striker Lens Hi-Def Yellow
This is a replacement lens, not a pair of goggles. You receive the lens only, to be mounted on a frame you already own.
Yellow barely darkens
This is the most common misconception about this tint. With a VLT of 85%, it lets through almost as much light as a clear lens, which is 90%. A difference of five points.
So it's not a sun lens. It's a contrast lens.
What it's really for
When the light is flat - dawn, dusk, fog, overcast sky, undergrowth - the reliefs disappear into a uniform grey. The yellow filter separates the planes and highlights terrain changes, without removing brightness where it is already lacking.
This is exactly the opposite of the need a smoked lens addresses.
Which masks it fits
The entire Striker series and the entire Striketeam series: Flight Deck, Land Ops, Vehicle Ops, Tactical XT, Striketeam XTO, Striketeam SJ, Striketeam WF and X-Tricator.
Thickness and treatment
High-strength polycarbonate of 2.6 mm - thicker than the brand's goggle lenses, which are 2.4 mm.
ClearZone FlowCoat treatment: anti-scratch on the outside, anti-fog on the inside. The two sides do not experience the same aggressions, so they do not receive the same treatment. 100% UVA and UVB filtration.
The three lenses in the series, by VLT
Clear - VLT 90: indoor and night, no effect on contrast or colors.
Hi-Def Yellow - VLT 85: flat to very low light, high contrast lens.
Smoke - VLT 15: medium to strong light, versatile daytime use.
VLT is the percentage of light that passes through the lens: the lower it is, the darker the lens.
