ESS
ESS ICE-ONE Clear
The best standard-price ratio in the ESS range. Four declared standards, 2.4 mm lenses, at an entry-level price.
EN 166 FT, decoded
The two letters are grades, and each tells us something:
F - low energy impact resistance, the grade applicable to spectacles.
T - impact resistance test performed at extreme temperatures, not just at ambient temperature.
The T is the mention that few protections display: it guarantees that the announced performance also holds in extreme cold or heat.
Thickness, and what it allows
Polycarbonate lenses of 2.4 mm. The manufacturer states that they meet the most demanding high-velocity test criteria and resist a direct shot from a .22 LR caliber.
The field of view
Rimless design: no frame edge obstructs the view. On shooting glasses, this eliminates the most penalizing constraint - aiming and handling are made easier.
The clear lens
Full protection without removing luminosity. This is the lens for night, indoors, workshops, and covered firing ranges - everywhere a tint would remove information instead of adding it.
The manufacturer also announces anti-fog properties for this lens.
Standards declared by the manufacturer
CE EN 166 FT, ANSI Z87.1-2003 high velocity, MIL-PRF-31013 and OSHA federal U.S. 100% UVA and UVB filtration.
