ESS
ESS Crossbow Replacement Polarized Lens
This is a replacement lens, not a pair of glasses. You receive the lens only, to be mounted on a frame you already own.
Polarized, not just tinted
The difference is not a matter of intensity but of nature. A tint reduces all light; a polarizer removes specific light.
Light reflected from a flat surface - water, glass, hood, wet road - is polarized. The filter eliminates it without affecting the rest of the scene: the white veil disappears and what was behind it becomes visible again.
A simply tinted lens, on the other hand, darkens both the reflection and the target in the same proportions. The contrast does not improve.
Grey, therefore neutral
The grey tint does not favor any part of the spectrum: colors are perceived at their true value. This is the most versatile combination - polarization deals with reflections, grey touches nothing else.
What it costs
A polarized lens costs about three times more than a tinted lens of the same range. This is the price of the polarizing film, not a difference in protection: both rely on the same 2.4 mm polycarbonate.
Three possible frames
Crossbow, Crosshair and Suppressor.
Manufacturing
High-strength 2.4 mm unbreakable polycarbonate, extruded, cut, then thermoformed. The surfaces receive a hard anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating.
ESS modular technology allows tool-free change: this is the whole point of buying a lens rather than a second complete pair.
Standard declared by the manufacturer
ANSI Z87.1-2020, with 100% UVA and UVB filtration.
