ESS
ESS CDI Max Smoke Gray
A wider frame, thicker lenses. The CDI Max takes the CDI and pushes the two dimensions that matter: coverage and thickness.
Lenses are 2.4 mm thick
Compared to 2.2 mm on the CDI. Two-tenths of a millimeter may seem small, but it's precisely the thickness that determines impact resistance—and the manufacturer counts them among the thickest on the sunglass market.
Increased curvature
The lens wraps further around the face. This has two consequences: a wider field of vision, and especially lateral protection that doesn't stop at the edge of the orbit. In the event of a side impact, it's this curvature that does the work.
Declared standards
MIL-PRF-31013 (clause 3.5.1.1), ANSI Z87.1-2010, CE EN 166 and US federal OSHA.
This is a notable difference from the CDI, whose manufacturer's specifications do not cite any standard numbers.
The lateral exchange system
As with the CDI, the lenses can be changed from the side without tools, to switch from one tint to another depending on the light.
The coating
ToughZone, anti-scratch on both sides. This is a durability treatment, not an anti-fog – for anti-fog, you need to look at the Crossbow range.
