ESS
ESS 5B Smoke Gray
The black frame version of the 5B Smoke Gray. Same lens, same construction: it's the frame color that changes, and it's the most understated in the range.
Three frames for the same lens
The 5B Smoke Gray comes in Black (this one), Tan, and Hi Vis Orange. All three have the same smoke gray lens and differ only in the frame - check the color before validating, as the prices are not identical.
The smoke gray lens
A neutral gray: it reduces brightness without shifting hues. Colors are still perceived accurately, and reflections are attenuated. It's the versatile tint in the range.
Ballistic protection that isn't visible
Ordinary sunglasses silhouette, discreet daily wear. The ballistic classification is in the object, not its appearance.
Construction
Frame injected in high-resistance polymer, widened temples that close peripheral protection, low-profile temple tips to limit contact points under a cap or helmet.
Lenses made of unbreakable polycarbonate extruded, cut, then thermoformed, with a hard anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating.
5B or Credence
Both ranges share construction, coating, and spirit. The difference is morphological: the manufacturer explicitly designs the Credence for faces above average size.
Standards declared by the manufacturer
Lenses classified ballistic according to MIL-PRF-32432 and ANSI Z87.1-2015, with 100% UVA and UVB filtration and distortion-free optical clarity.
