ESS 5B Polarized Mirror Green
The only polarized lens in the 5B range. And polarization doesn't do the same thing as a tint: it doesn't reduce overall light, it eliminates a specific part of it.
What polarization removes
Light reflected from a flat surface – water, glass, hood, wet road – is polarized. A polarizing filter removes it without affecting the rest of the scene: the white veil disappears, and what was behind it becomes visible again.
A simply tinted lens, on the other hand, darkens the reflection and the target in the same proportions. The contrast does not improve.
Three combined treatments
Polarization cuts reflected light.
The mirror reflects some of the light before it enters the lens.
The green tint absorbs the spectrum uniformly, which preserves color perception.
It is this combination that explains the price difference with the rest of the range.
Construction
Injected frame made of high-strength polymer, with widened temples that close the peripheral protection instead of leaving a gap on the sides.
The temple tips are low profile: fewer contact points under a cap, hat, or helmet.
Unbreakable polycarbonate lenses extruded, cut, and then thermoformed, covered with a hard anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating.
The 5B range
Smoke Gray - Hi Vis Orange or Tan frames.
Hi-Def Bronze - Olive or Camo frames.
Mirrored Gray - Black frame.
Copper - Black frame.
Polarized Mirror Green - Grey frame.
The price depends on the tint and the frame: two frames of the same lens may not be at the same price.
5B or Credence
Both ranges share the construction, coating, and standards. The difference is morphological: the manufacturer explicitly designs the Credence for faces above average. If a standard frame compresses your temples, you should look towards the Credence.
Standards declared by the manufacturer
Lenses classified as ballistic according to MIL-PRF-32432 and ANSI Z87.1-2015, with 100% UVA and UVB filtration and distortion-free optical clarity.
