An air conditioner only cools if it expels its heat outside. In a vehicle, this means passing the duct through a window, thus leaving an opening through which hot air, rain, and insects can enter. This cover closes everything except for the duct's passage. Without it, the Wave 3 in a car fights against the air it has just heated itself.
