AKU
AKU Spider II
The Spider was designed for the SEALs and Green Berets. This is not a retroactive marketing claim: it was the original requirement, and it explains every choice made for the model.
The focus: breathability
The AIR8000 fabric, developed by AKU, is rated by the manufacturer as having eleven times greater breathability than comparable fabrics. A polyurethane film heat treatment is then applied to enhance durability and limit moisture absorption.
Note: the Spider II's technical specifications do not include a membrane. If you are looking for a shoe with a Gore-Tex membrane, you should look at the Selvatica Tactical GTX and Pilgrim GTX models in the catalog. The Spider II relies on wicking rather than a barrier—which is exactly what is required for a spring, summer, and autumn shoe.
The sole
Vibram Spider, injected with a balanced-grip rubber compound, designed for varied terrain and situations requiring extreme traction.
The Elica Natural Stride system gives the sole an anatomical shape, modeled after the foot rather than the usual symmetrical template.
Cushioning and support
Die-cut EVA midsole for stabilization, and a fitted IMS insole, which strengthens the bond between the sole and the midsole and absorbs shock.
Lacing
Redesigned speed system, with reinforced eyelets: this is where a tactical shoe fails first.
Mid-cut upper, matte and non-reflective colors. Rubber and polymers for the rest.
