AKU
AKU Pilgrim DS Combat
The Pilgrim without the membrane. Same leather, same sole, same cushioning as the HL GTX version: fifty euros less, and no Gore-Tex.
What this choice implies
The technical specifications of the DS Combat do not include a membrane. Protection against water therefore relies solely on the waterproof full-grain leather.
This is not necessarily a drawback: without a membrane, a boot dries faster once wet and is more breathable in hot weather. For dry to temperate use, this is often the best compromise. For walking in water and slush, the Pilgrim HL GTX Combat from the catalog adds Gore-Tex.
Upper materials
Waterproof full-grain leather and AKU's AIR8000 textile, the latter advertised as eleven times more breathable than comparable fabrics. The combination provides the durability of leather without the stuffiness.
The sole
Vibram Foura, injected rubber with balanced grip, designed for all terrains.
Cushioning
Injected EVA Microprosa foam in the midsole, and IMS shaped fit system that reduces vibrations and stress on the boot. Custom Fit IMS footbed.
Lacing
Traditional, with metal loops and hooks, featuring reinforced eyelets. Simple, finely adjustable, repairable anywhere.
Non-reflective color. Hiking, trekking, military use, and daily wear.
