Morakniv Collection - fixed blade knives made in Mora
Morakniv manufactures its blades in Mora, Sweden, and has always sold the same idea: an honest fixed blade knife at a price that doesn't make you hesitate to use it. You can find them in the pockets of lumberjacks as well as in hikers' backpacks, and it is often the first serious knife one buys.
The choice starts with the steel. Swedish stainless steel requires little maintenance, holds an edge for a long time, and handles humidity without flinching: this is the knife you can forget in a wet bag. Carbon steel has a better bite and can be resharpened in a few passes, but it will rust if stored while wet. Both are available for the same model; it's up to you to choose your preference.
The Companion is the brand's all-purpose knife, with its three-quarter tang and friction-fit handle. The Companion HeavyDuty features a 3.2 mm thick blade and a 27° sharpening angle to handle batoning. The Robust plays the same card with a thick blade and a shock-resistant handle. The Kansbol, designed for hunting and adventure, accepts a fire starter on the spine of the blade. The Basic 511 and Pro S are the job-site knives, with a prominent guard and a non-slip handle.
They all share a Scandinavian geometry: a single, wide, flat bevel that can be resharpened on a stone without hunting for the angle. This is what makes these knives easy to keep sharp, even if you are inexperienced.
