KA-BAR
KA-BAR Collection - Combat Knives and Fixed Blades
The name KA-BAR has become synonymous with the knife used by the American Marines. The model was adopted by the US Marine Corps in November 1942, and more than a million were manufactured during the war.
The name comes from a trapper's letter: he claimed to have killed a bear with his knife, and his poorly spelled "kill a bear" was read as "ka bar". The company, located in Olean, New York, adopted this name in 1952. It still manufactures its knives there.
The collection includes the USMC combat knife in its original and short versions, the Fighting Knife and its short version, and the black Tanto.
It also features the Dozier Hunter, a small hunting knife, the Snody Snake Charmer, and the Lunch Pal, a knife, fork, and spoon set for camping.
