Choosing a black EDC
Coating or material? A black blade is coated: black oxide, DLC or Cerakote. DLC is the hardest and wears the least; black oxide turns white on the edges over time. A polymer, carbon or anodized aluminum object is black through and through and does not chip.
Black gets lost. A black object disappears in the grass or at the bottom of a bag. Attach small objects to keychains and keep a fixed order in your pockets.
Frequently asked questions
- Does a black blade cut less well?
- No. The coating is very thin and disappears with the sharpening edge over time. It mainly protects the rest of the blade from corrosion.
- Can you carry a knife in town?
- A knife is a category D weapon: its carrying and transport are prohibited without a legitimate reason, which the police and then the judge will assess. Without a particular reason, it is better to leave it at home.
